Before you can join us, you need to become a member of the Castle Hill RSL Club. Once you have completed the registration process, you will be issued with a membership card. You need this card to join our Badminton Club.

FAQ
1. Who can join the club sessions?
​
Everyone is welcome to join our social sessions.
​
2. I just want to pop in for a casual game. Do I need to sign up as a member?
​
If it's your first time, No you don’t for a social session. You will be required to sign an indemnity form to release the club from any injury claims for compensation. As a visitor you pay the visitor fee per session. Most sessions have a maximum capacity of 21 players.
3. How do I sign up as a member?
​
First you have to be a member of Castle Hill RSL Club, You can then register online through this web site or request the link for the registration form via our info@castlehillbadminton.com.
​
4. How many games will I get during each social session?
​
You will be playing for ~50-60% of the total time. Members generally find that this is a good balance between playing and socialising.
5. What kind of scoring system do you use?
​
We use the rally point system of scoring for all games. Each game will go to 21 points with no setting if the score reaches 20-20.
6. What kind of shuttles do you use?
​
We only use good quality feather shuttles.
7. Are the sessions predominantly male?
​
The Club is proud to say that over the past few years we have made great strides in improving the gender balance at our sessions.
Currently 17% of our members are female.
8. I want to improve my game - is there coaching available?
​
Yes - we offer formal fee based coaching for players from experienced coaches. Please talk to a committee member during one of our sessions to find out more.
9. I am a competitive player - do you offer anything for me?
​
​We have graded sessions in which players are D High graded or above.
10. Can I book courts through the club?
​
Unfortunately not.
11. Do you sell racquets, shoes, shuttles, grips, restringing, etc?
​
Not at this stage - but our club sponsor, CALIBRE, will be able to provide you with some fantastic deals on this front.

BEST PRACTICES
All players and visitors are expected to respect & abide by the following guidelines, which are a condition of entry into the hall.
General directives
-
Follow the directions or any instruction made by the Duty Officer or a CHRSL Badminton Committee member, or any official (authorized by the committee).
​

Always use the shared car park safely and appropriately. Do not double park, as this will disrupt games when someone has to pull out when the game is on.

While on the courts – players must wear nonmarking shoes.
-
Appropriate badminton and sporting attire are encouraged.
-
Food and drinks are not permitted in the courts.
-
All areas within the hall are strictly nonsmoking zones.

Children are always welcome but must be supervised & are the responsibility of their parent or accompanying adult at all times – both on and off the court.

Members should always make visitors, and new players feel welcome.
-
Committee will not tolerate discrimination of any kind.

Ideas, suggestions & general feedback, together with any misconduct or disagreements, should be raised with the DO or a committee member or write to committee@castlehillbadminton.com (so Committee can discuss these ideas and suggestions at a future meeting) ensure the continual improvement of our badminton club.
Playing the games
-
Players are required to pay their court fees before going onto the courts. Club DO’s will use their discretion to stop games from collecting these fees.

Please ensure that another member witnesses payment deposit or change withdrawal.

Deliberately avoiding paying court fees will not be tolerated.
-
Silver coins will not be accepted as court fees.
-
Good Sporting Conduct* (such as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) is encouraged at all times.
-
Wearing protective eyewear when playing might protect you from an eye injury from a shuttle.
-
Do not tie up (Hog) the side court for yourselves. Let others have a chance to warm-up or practice.
-
During playing, sessions follow the PEG Queuing System.

Courts may become slippery before and during sessions – check courts before play and use the mops required if necessary.

Members should take an appropriate amount of time to warm up before play (on the court), but consideration should also be given to players waiting – keep a good game flow.
-
Do not stay on the court for re-matches if other players are waiting to play.

All spectators (including kids under supervision), visitors, and players waiting are expected to keep a safe distance from the courts and use caution while moving around the stand areas & surrounding walkways.

Players using the side courts for practice and warm-up should collect the shuttles and return them to the metal box as a courtesy.
-
The last players off the court must help the Duty Officer to dismantle the net and the poles.
Personal responsibilities
-
Bring good shuttlecocks back to the table.
-
Players are responsible for their own belongings. Ensure that these items do not affect your own or another person’s safety.
-
Before leaving – all rubbish needs to be placed in the bins provided.
-
Used shuttles are to be placed in the bins/boxes provided.
-
Report all safety concerns, faults, or damage to the DO as soon as possible.
*Sporting Conduct
-
Introduce yourself to your partner and your opponents before the match. Be sure to shake hands after the match.
-
While warming up, help your opponent's warm-up as well; don't kill every stroke.
-
If there is any question on whether you have fouled, call it on yourself.
-
When you doubt whether a shuttle landed in or out, always give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent or replay the point.
-
Never question your opponent's calls.
-
While at times during a match you may want to aim a smash at your opponent, do not do it if you can get the point any other way. If you have a setup, hit it somewhere else in the court.
-
Control your anger. Never throw your racket.
-
Never deride or make fun of an opponent.
-
As the server, keep the score and call it before each serve, calling the server's score first.
-
When your opponent is serving, and a shuttle lands out of bounds on your side of the court, pick it up and hit it back, or toss it under the net to the server.
-
Compliment your opponent on any good shots made.
-
Do not offer advice or criticism to your partner or your opponents unless they ask you for it.
-
Keep up the play. Do not stall between points.
-
Do not talk to your partner during a rally except when you are directing tactics, as in "I've got it" or "You're up."
-
If you are receiving, be ready to return the shuttle as soon as the server is ready to serve.

BADDY APP
Our club uses an App, Baddy developed by Rason Chia, for session reservations and payments as well as player selection during games.
Members will need to download Baddy into their mobiles

Members are encouraged to represent castle Hill Badminton Club in external tournaments.

To claim your cost of participation, after the tournament, submit the following to club email committee@castlehillbadminton

For the 2024 year of Membership, per member is up to a maximum of $90,
Above subsidy only for adult and Junior members who are registered for a full year. Those who paid half-year annual fees are not eligible for the $90 subsidy.
